影片以沙漠为背景，好像是九十年代香港武侠电影的常用手法，如新龙门客栈，是不是在那种脱离了世俗的地方，才能愈发现显出武功，或者说是人性的纯粹。
但在这部影片中沙漠是温柔的，是细腻的，因为有了程灵素，因为有了袁紫衣。我最喜欢的一场戏是在破庙中，袁紫衣把粘着麦芽糖的手指伸给胡斐，胡斐深深的望着她，轻轻地吸着指尖上的甜蜜。后来胡斐又不经意把麦芽糖倒在了紫衣的手上，那是怎样的一双纤纤玉手，丰润而洁白，被金黄粘稠缓缓流动的麦芽糖更衬托得如仙如幻，她举着手，长着手指，表情一如纯洁少女，而胡斐，为她擦手，扯出那千丝万缕，然后捧着她的手，一只只的吮吸，可爱的紫衣心理的斗争完全抵不过这个男人的温柔，和他的吻。
一切如印象派的画作，背景被黄色的烛光虚化，人物轮廓朦胧，节奏舒缓，如梦似幻。
而程灵素在这部电影中的位置，好像雨后彩虹，避免了整部片子落入俗套和可能的沉闷。
程灵素聪明，执着，可以在说笑中把胡斐保护的好好的，但胡斐到底是个男人，他有着天生对女人的轻视和保护欲，尤其是面对这个表面凶悍内心敏感的丫头，他的大男子主义比和袁紫衣在一起时更加明显。往好的想就是：胡斐没把程灵素当外人，往坏的想就是：他不爱程灵素。。。
尤记得她看着胡斐倒下时的表情和那句：告诉你不要还手的，那种忧伤和嗔怪是知道自己已经不能再陪在他身旁了。
最后她要胡斐想听他和她说一次“我爱你”，真是个卑微的要求，超凡脱俗，清心淡泊如斯，也逃不过一个爱字的纠缠。真是：因爱而生忧，因爱而生怖，若离于爱者，无忧亦无怖。。。
